CONDORMAN!!!!

Before Phantom of the Opera, but after Music Man, Michael Crawford was Disney's Condorman. When I was a kid, I scoured the rental store every week to see if they had condor man. This was back when all VHS's came in those gigantice plastic cases. This was when you actually had to rent VHS players and they not only were huge but they came in two parts.
I have always wondered why Disney swept this movie under the rug. Every other film in their vault has eventually come to see the light of day again. However, as I combed over the internet, I came to find out that Condorman really sucks. I guess it is like when I wished for the day that Black Cauldron would come out. When it finally did, I purchased it without a second thought. That first viewing of Black Cauldron singlehandedly dashed my childhood memories. I wondered, if Black Cauldron is this bad what does that mean about my other memories??? Well years have gone by and after second viewings of all my favorite cartoons as a kid, I decided that kids like stupid things.

Condorman...RIP

hahaha! I remember condorman! I loved that movie as a kid... But after your comment, I'll leave it that way and keep it as a good memory. There is a bunch of movies like that... krull, the beastmaster, bloodsport.
I don't even dare watch them again.
BUT... if they remake a condorman, that looks like THAT! I'll go see it it a heart beat! awesome work!

Yeah, re-watching Voltron and He-Man was really disappointing. However my kids love it! So the dream lives on.

HA! I totally did the same thing. I hadn't seen Condorman since I was like 8. With fond memories I recently went looking for it...haha, what a shock! Same with Ninja Turtles and Ducktails. It's amazing the plot holes that we simply didn't understand were running rampant throughout these shows :P

I think the idea of 'Condorman' far outweighed the quality of the actual movie. I remember seeing it in the cinema when it came out and loving it but like yourself, came to discover in recent years that it's one god awful movie.
Lovely piece by the way!

I also loved Condorman as a kid...but yeah, it sucks. This art is probably the best thing to ever happen to it!

Welcome to the final stages of disillusionment, Adam. For a while you walk around saying, "why does everyone hate on the 80s so much? The 80s were TOTALLY AWESOME!" And then you go back and watch stuff from your childhood and then think "Oh, I see...crap."

I still think Condorman was awesome, though.

Awseome!
I caught it on the TV when I was 5 or 6. The very next day at kindergarten I taped together a bunch of papers and added handles to construct very my own set of wings! When the teacher(they're really not teachers, but I don't know the word...kindergarten staff =) ) asked me what I was doing I said in obvious tone that I'm the condor-man! They looked in shock and uncertainity at me! At this age I had a problem with my pronounciation because of a hearing disorder and it was just years later I realised that what they thought I said was that I was the condom-man!

I too have wondered about the status of Condorman. In this age where EVERYTHING is coming back like an improperly cooked lunch, you'd think Condorman would have been considered.

But like you, I'm starting to mistrust my childhood memories. I saw this one when I was 5, and though I liked it, even then I remember having trouble with some of the movie's logic. Like, how does he get his wings back after leaving them somewhere else in the city?

Whatever the case, I love the picture. It looks like a modern comic book re-imagining of the character, and I'd totally read it. You've given that city behind him a great sense of atmosphere while keeping the details sparse and not distracting. And as usual for your art, the lighting on Condorman in fantastic.
